In China, GB/T 9711 (equivalent to API 5L / ISO 3183) applies to oil and gas transmission pipelines, GB/T 3091 covers welded steel pipes for low-pressure fluid delivery, and SY/T 5037 applies to spiral submerged arc welded pipes for general fluid transmission. Each standard defines different requirements for chemical composition, tensile properties, hydrostatic testing and weld inspection.
For export projects, buyers should state the standard, steel grade, diameter, wall thickness and length in the inquiry, and confirm the inspection items before production — X-ray or ultrasonic weld inspection and hydrostatic testing are commonly requested.
